Curriculum development and initiatives - CSE projects
A vital part of inspiring children and young people to take an interest in STEM subjects, and in particular science, is to ensure that what they study at school is lively, engaging and relevant to their lives. CSE's core activity is to build this capacity, pushing forward the boundaries of curriculum development.
Working in partnership with a wide range of organisations and funders, initiatives bring together the expertise of the core team and network of science education professionals with creative, practising teachers resulting in a balance of innovation and pragmatism. The outcomes from these initiatives may create classroom materials, digital resources, publications disseminating the work to schools throughout the UK. But an important aspect of any development is the process of stimulating ideas, reflection and considering evidence on how teachers can engage in the process of livening up the way science is taught.
CSE is currently managing and developing over 40 projects organised into core groups represented by the accompanying diagram (PDF 1.55MB).
Some examples of existing projects include
- STEM Careers Action Programme - improving guidance on subject choice and careers

- Student Associate Scheme (SAS) - placement scheme for undergraduates in primary and secondary schools
