Continuing professional development - Science Learning Centre Yorkshire and the Humber
Professional development for teachers and associated science education professionals is an important element of driving forward teaching and learning in schools and is highly valued by the Centre for Science Education. As an integral element of most projects, CPD ensures that the school, teacher and pupils achieve maximum benefits from curriculum development.
The main vehicle for CPD within CSE is the co-located Science Learning Centre for Yorkshire and the Humber. This is one of nine regional centres covering English government regions and is funded by the DCSF to provide high quality Continuing Professional Development for everyone involved in science education. The centre supports teachers in enhancing their professional skills with programmes focusing on subject knowledge, contemporary scientific ideas and innovative and effective teaching approaches.
The Science Learning Centre has modern laboratories and teaching rooms equipped with ICT, video conferencing and AV resources. The centre runs courses for the primary, secondary and post-16 sectors of education at the Science Learning Centre and through its network of satellite centres situated in schools and colleges across the region.
Regional collaboration with the National Secondary Strategy, local authorities, SSAT, the ASE and STEM partners is an important part of the work of the centre and gives schools a clearer, co-ordinated approach to CPD.
