Science pre-service teachers’ personal constructs - classroom teaching and the role of a teacher and how these constructs change over time

Aims and objectives

  • to explore the personal constructs of teaching and the role of a teacher in a group of professional year teaching students
  • to investigate the changes in these constructs over time from their time as teaching practice students to practicing teachers (up to five years)
  • to discover if the participants develop a deeper understanding of the challenges/satisfaction of teaching over time and classroom practice
  • to determine, through personal reflection, if the participants develop different perspectives on the work of a teacher
  • to examine the degree to which this affects their career decisions
