Motivational interviewing short courses
Motivational interviewing (MI) was developed to aid professionals in clinical and behaviour change settings. MI is a directive client-centred counselling style designed to assist clients in exploring and resolving ambivalence to change. It assists the client through the stages of change to the 'action' stage in an empathic and non-confrontational manner.
We offer bespoke training throughout the UK and Europe. Consultancy and/or training workshops can be arranged at any site in the UK or Europe. Each training session will be designed to match your needs. A needs assessment will be provided free of charge and a no obligation quotation for the work will be provided. Who should attend a motivational interviewing workshop?
- exercise prescribers or weight loss specialists
- any health professional working with patients in order to reduce 'risk behaviours'
- counsellors working in 'addiction settings' such as drugs, smoking, alcohol and lethargy
- other areas of counselling that use MI include sexual health, diet/nutrition, domestic violence and young offenders
- health professionals working with patients in a counselling or advisory role
Aims and objectives of MI
The courses will introduce, develop and evaluate skills in MI, exploring individuals' ambivalence to change from risk behaviours. The main aims and objectives of the courses are
- to develop skills in exploring a clients ambivalence and readiness for change
- to identify effective methods of psychotherapeutic counselling techniques for initial and support consultation sessions.
- to enable counsellors to encourage clients self-efficacy and self responsibility for change
- to develop skills within the counsellor that will aid the client to move through the stages of behaviour change
