Performance enhancement

The Centre for Sport and Exercise Science has a national and international reputation for providing holistic sport science services to elite sport performers.

The high profile role played by CSES staff at the 2000 Olympics and Paralympics, 2002 Winter Olympics and Manchester Commonwealth Games, the 2004 Athens Olympics and the 2006 Winter Olympics and Melbourne Commonwealth Games have ensured that Sheffield Hallam continues to be pre-eminent amongst the university sector providers.

Our staff provide consultancy services to the following World Class Performance Programmes

  • Amateur Swimming Association (Diving and Swimming)
  • British Cycling Federation
  • British Speed Skating Association
  • British Skeleton-Bob Team
  • English Bowls Association
  • English Golf Union
  • Royal Yachting Association (Sailing)

Additionally, the team for Sport Performance provide consultancy services to athletes and teams in both professional and semi-professional sport, as well as athletes seeking to improve performance at the level below World Class Performance funding.

Our Golf Science and Performance Programme, in association with Zenjin, actively combines psychology, nutrition, conditioning and biomechanics to offer a definitive performance enhancement solution for elite golfers looking to achieve winning form at major championships, as well as keen amateur players wanting to raise performance standards and/or to prevent or rehabilitate from golf-related injuries.

The Centre for Sport and Exercise Science have also extended performance enhancement outside the world of elite and professional sport. Under the banner of the 'corporate athlete', we are supporting individuals and teams within the contexts of education and business, using our experience gained in Olympic sport to enhance performance in other high-pressure situations.
