Performance enhancement

Sport performance

The team for sport performance was created as the result of support from the SportsPulse initiative. Our goal is to make sport science support services affordable and available to any individual and/or team athletes wanting to improve athletic performance.

Our philosophy is to provide a holistic, client-tailored approach to the analysis, delivery and evaluation of performance enhancement interventions in nutrition, physiology, psychology, biomechanics and strength and conditioning.

Currently, these clients include Sheffield United FC, Sheffield Rugby Union Football Club, Sheffield Eagles Rugby League Football Club and the England Senior Men's Lacrosse team, as well as catering for a range of individual athletes across a variety of individual and team sports, including GB Orienteering, Figure Skating, Track and Field, Field Hockey and Professional Snooker, as well as athletes funded by the Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS).

The 2008 Beijing Olympics and 2012 London Olympics continue to offer motivation and opportunity for the centre to develop in performance enhancement. As a result of this, we also aim to develop those interested in a Sport and Exercise Science career through an accelerated training programme and work placement scheme, known as the Sport Performance Internship Scheme. We offer our internship students the opportunity to gain real-life experience of designing, delivering and evaluating sport science consultancy through work placements with our clients.
