Higher education research
Higher education research is pervasive at Sheffield Hallam University and is led by the Higher Education Research and Scholarship Group, which is part of the Education Research Network.
Our group brings together colleagues from across the University who are engaged in research and scholarship in higher education pedagogy and policy. Because the context for this research is not disciplinary specific, this represents a large and diverse grouping of staff.
The group's interests range widely. Action research methodology and student autonomy have been two dominant interests, though presentations have been coincided with a wide range of professional development, teaching and learning issues.
Additional strategic infrastructural support is provided by the University's Quality Enhancement and Student Success (QESS) team and by the learning, teaching and assessment leaders in each of the University's faculties.
This flourishing research and scholarship group holds frequent seminars and an annual internal research conference, which typically attracts papers from more than 30 academic staff, and supports the dissemination and stimulation of research interests. There is also close liaison with the University's Student Engagement and Enhancement Journal (SEEJ), which is edited by Manuel Madriaga in QESS.
Current steering group members include Dr
