Mark Boylan is a senior lecturer in mathematics education. He is an active researcher of his own practice focusing on the development of learning communities and peer learning with ITT students. Particular areas of interest are issues of social justice in mathematics teacher education, and emotionality and teaching, and theorising teacher professional development. He is co-leader of the teacher education research and scholarship group.
His doctoral research was a school based project focusing on the experience of school mathematics and teacher questioning during which he developed a critique of community of practice theory. He is a member of the Critical Mathematics Education Group and is a reviewer for Teacher and Teacher Education.
