Serena is a principal lecturer in sociology and a Faculty teaching fellow. Following the completion of her PhD (2002) on the experiences of mature, non-traditional students in higher education, she focused her research interests on ways of engaging students with undergraduate learning.
Working as an associate of the University's Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (Promoting Learner Autonomy) during 2005/6, Serena made a successful application for membership of the US-based National Centre for Electronic Portfolio Research. She is at present leading a team of researchers in a longitudinal project researching the factors that influence how learners engage with ePortfolios in their personal, academic and professional development.
