Stuart McPhillipsStuart McPhillips

BA (Honours) Sociology, Postgraduate Diploma in Applied Social Studies (including Certificate of Qualification in Social Work), member of the Institute of Business Consulting

Stuart has worked in a wide range of senior operational and strategic roles within probation and central government. His responsibilities at senior management level in probation have included • community sentences • management information • business planning • performance management. 

In 2000–01 Stuart was policy development advisor with the Association of Chief Officers of Probation. His role and responsibilities comprised working across probation areas, the Home Office and stakeholders to develop policy in relation to What Works, dangerous offenders, social exclusion and women offenders. He was a member of the Home Office Strategic Boards for the Offender Assessment System and What Works.

From 2001 to 2010 Stuart held posts in the Home Office and Ministry of Justice - first as National Probation Service regional manager and subsequently probation trust development manager. His key responsibilities and activities included • performance improvement • organisational development for probation trusts • strategic planning • partnerships • offender management • European Foundation for Quality Management (EFQM).
