Research interests / current work

I am interested in the history of central banking from the late nineteenth century until the current financial crisis. At present I am working on the history of public perceptions of, and hostility towards, banks and bankers since the early twentieth century, with an emphasis on Britain and the United States. I also have written extensively on the economic and financial history of New Zealand and the British Commonwealth, and on British business history, especially of the North West.

Collaboration

I am on the executive committee of the Economic History Society of Australia and New Zealand and am associate editor of the Australian Economic History Review. I am joint editor of the Business History monograph series published by Pickering and Chatto.
