About the Centre

Woman reading job adsThe Centre for Health and Social Care Research was established in 2003 to deliver cutting edge high quality research in health, social care and associated areas. Our mission is to engage in projects that will make a real difference to end users of health and social care services and their carers, to disadvantaged and seldom heard groups in the community, to health and social care practitioners and to other community workers. We are also a provider of excellent research education and training.

The Centre is located within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing, which is distinctive for its pioneering and leading role in interdisciplinary working and its close links with the NHS and social care. The Centre has also developed close working relationships with researchers within the three other Faculties in Sheffield Hallam University, enabling the undertaking of novel multi disciplinary applied research in areas such as inclusive design, participatory models of research, computing and health.

The expertise of over 20 staff employed by the Centre ensures that we are able to deliver on a range of exciting and current research agendas. The majority of our research staff have a dual clinical and research background. They are ideally equipped to directly engage with service commissioners and providers and with end users of services.

GroupThe employment of social scientists complements this skill set in ensuring the delivery of robust, methodologically sound research. All our projects are thoroughly disseminated, in accessible formats to reach a range of audiences.

The Centre for Health and Social Care Research works closely with the other research centres within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing:
