Fiona is a research fellow who joined the Centre for Health and Social Care in May 2009. Prior to this she undertook a PhD at the University of the West of England (Bristol), funded by the charity Breast Cancer Campaign, exploring the psychosocial impact and perception of ductal carcinoma in situ (DCIS), which is a very early stage of breast cancer increasingly detected by routine mammogram screening. This research utilised mixed methods, but had a strong focus on qualitative interviewing.

With a background in health psychology, her research interests centre on applied, patient-led research, patient experience of health and illness, individual perceptions of long-term health conditions (especially cancer, specifically DCIS and invasive breast cancer), and researchers' experiences of undertaking research in sensitive areas.

Since joining Sheffield Hallam Fiona has been involved in a project with Professor Kate Gerrish and Dr Ann McDonnell, funded by the Burdett Trust for Nursing, that aims to explore and develop approaches to measure the impact of nurse consultants on patient and professional outcomes.

She has also recently joined the Collaboration for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLAHRC) TK2A theme to undertake some research relating to knowledge brokering and boundary spanning.
