Geoff Green is emeritus professor of urban policy at the Centre for Health and Social Care Research, Sheffield Hallam University in the UK and advises the WHO European Healthy Cities Network on Age-Friendly cities and city health development planning. His professional life is at the interface of local government and academia, working alternately in the Chief Executives Departments of four UK cities and the universities of Sheffield, Oxford, Birmingham and now Sheffield Hallam. He contributed to guidance on Healthy Ageing Profiles (WHO, 2008) A new model dependency ratio (Italian Journal of Public Health, 2008) Healthy Ageing in the City of Sunderland (2008) and Cities of the Third Age (Journal of Urban Health, forthcoming 2011).

Research interests:
- Economic, environmental and social determinants of health, health inequalities and healthy ageing in European cities.
Current work:
- Adviser to the WHO European Healthy Cities Network on city health development planning, healthy ageing and impact evaluation.
- Convenor for HAVEN, a new consortium of European universities planning to research and evaluate Healthy Cities and train personnel.
- Joint guest editor of special supplement of the Journal of Urban Health on European healthy cities; 13 articles.
- Prospective Health Impact Assessments of investment in housing (Leeds City Council + North East Derbyshire + Belfast Peoples Participation and Rights Project) and Neighbourhood Renewal (Flintshire).
