My background is in public health nursing and primary health care. I have maintained a clinical role in primary care, currently in a post supporting patients in managing long term conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular and respiratory diseases. I have an honorary contract with Sheffield Primary Care Trust for this.
I also lead or contribute to a number of undergraduate and postgraduate modules focused on public health and on management of long term conditions.
I have led a number of research projects about the management of obesity in primary care. Health professionals' attitudes to obesity and the impact of these on the outcomes of health service interventions for patients is an area of interest.
I am currently seconded part time to the position of Trial Coordinator with the PANDAs Project at the University of Sheffield. The PANDAs study (a cluster RCT) will evaluate the use of a decision aid for patients facing choices about how best to manage type 2 diabetes. The project is funded by the National Institute for Health Research.
Research collaborations
Academic collaborators include medical, nursing, psychology departments at the University of Sheffield. Health service collaborators include Primary Care Organisations in the NHS in England.
