Research interests/current work
Punita works as a Research Fellow in the Faculty of Health & Wellbeing at Sheffield Hallam University. For the three years previously, she worked as a Research Associate in the School of Nursing & Midwifery at the University of Sheffield, seconded to the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine. With a background in sociology, social policy and development studies, she has been working on applied and academic projects in health and social development in India and in the UK for the last ten years. Punita's Research interests and experience fall into the following themes
- Poverty and social exclusion, particularly gender and child poverty
- Gender and ethnic inequalities in health
- Families and children: fathering, mothering, children's rights
- International development particularly, monitoring and evaluation, participation theories and community engagement
- Qualitative, participatory and comparative research methods
Research collaborations
Punita has developed and maintained close contacts with professionals working on issues of common interest in the UK as well as abroad. Punita's current and recent collaborative projects involve researchers from University of Alberta, London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, University of Essex and University of Sheffield amongst others. Punita has also worked collaboratively on a number of projects with NHS Sheffield and Voluntary Sector organisations.
