The aim of our research is to develop a better understanding of not only the mechanisms by which these coatings employ to provide a protective barrier between the coated component or structure and the environment to which it is exposed, but also the ageing and degradation processes which lead to reduction of the coating's performance and eventual failure of the protective system.
