PhD MEng

Before taking up the position of lecturer at Sheffield Hallam University, Andrew spent six years working in academic research focusing on numerically modelling flow and energy systems.

Research Interests

Andrew Gerard's research  interests focus around  passive cooling, reducing energy consumption, fuel cell and battery technology and a side interest in modelling detonation. Tools used to work within these fields include commercially available codes such as computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and developing new, bespoke codes.

Research Collaborations

Andrew Gerard is the  leader of the Mechanical Engineering Energy Research Group, involved with developing engineering initiatives to either reduce energy consumption or produce energy from renewable sources.

His work principally focuses on numerically modelling energy systems and with an interest in regenerative fuel cells for large scale energy storage and multizone modelling for passive ventilation and contaminant transportation. Andrew has worked on passive cooling of electrical machines and drives for applications such as the technologies in the 'more electrical aircraft' project.
