Research interests
First and foremost, I am an engineer, with a background in mechanical, chemical and process sectors, with over ten years experience in delivering consultancy to a wide range of industries. I have been at Sheffield Hallam for about four years, and am now leading the mechanical engineering subject group, which is going from strength to strength with teaching and research in energy, structural integrity, biomechanics, and aerospace.
I am also involved in renewable energy research, and have recently set up a new commercial venture called Hallam Energy, which delivers services to the public and private sector on energy efficiency, low design, and energy performance analysis and enhancement. Finally, I am the co-ordinator for the Sustainability Hub.
Energy economics - business case preparation, assessment of viability for energy systems, highlighting cost effectiveness, and payback analysis, including a review of government support through capital gains tax allowances, incentives and climate change levy exemptions
Energy engineering - detailed analysis and infra-red thermal imaging of your products, processes, and buildings, using state of the art techniques answer your ‘what if?’ questions and reduce your development times
Energy management - development of corporate energy policy, energy usage data logging, monitoring, appraisal, enhancement and optimisation
Project management - energy system solutions, including feasibility assessment, rating, specification and implementation of energy-reducing projects
Staff training - for directors, energy managers and operatives, developing staff awareness and best-practices in business and operations
Product design - carbon life-cycle analysis (LCA) and low energy design for products and processes
