After studying molecular biology and genetics at the University of Belgrade and School of Contemporary Dance, I moved to the United Kingdom following the political upheaval in Yugoslavia and completed an MA and MPhil/PhD in dance studies at the University of Surrey, before going on to complete a PhD at the School of Social Sciences, Media and Cultural Studies, University of East London.
After some 14 years at University of Surrey I took a new role at Sheffield Hallam University's Materials and Engineering Research Institute as a research fellow and research network co-ordinator for the EPSRC funded Bridging the Gap project, entitled Engineering for Life - Enhancing people's lives. To this role I bring my research experience in number of interdisciplinary projects as well as in international coordination and range of experiences on European Commission funded projects in order to reflect on the research networks and to focus on my original research into creative innovation strategies for research interactions across arts, science and engineering.
Research interests
My main areas of scholarly and artistic interest include interdisciplinary approaches to performance practice and theory, and psychoanalytical theory, volatile identities and bodies.
My own research, which would of course inform my practice, has focused on uncertainties of subjectivity and identity, bodies, belonging, otherness, drawing from feminist theories and contemporary performance practice, and theories of spectatorship. I have also studied and taught in the areas of women and 'resistance performance' (or political theatres of repressed groups), and in critical theory and performance practice using and creating new technologies.
