Imtiyaz joined the consultancy team within MERI as a researcher where he provides technical and professional services to the textile and polymer industry. He has a background in textile chemistry and over 15 years research experience in textile technology and polymer science.
His passion and desire is to develop sustainable environmentally friendly technologies. His expertise lies within structure-property relationships which cover interdisciplinary areas of textiles, polymers, materials, nanomaterials and the application of lasers to alter materials properties. He specialises in characterisation techniques and has hands-on experience of several instrumentation techniques such as Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Transmission Electron Microscopy (TEM), Instron (mechanical testing) to name a few.
Imtiyaz has several years of experience leading and managing research projects in collaboration with industry. He has led a Department of Trade and Industry (now TSB) project amongst the industrial partners on 'Sustainable Digital Imaging and Printing' and submitted the findings as 4 GB patents. He also has the experience of delivering a European funded nanotechnology project and submitting 2 GB patents.
Imtiyaz is actively conducting research, helping businesses to solve their problems related to product testing and analysis and their effect on product life. He is an active member of several professional bodies including The Royal Society of Chemistry (UK) and the Materials Research Society (USA).
