Facilities and specialist equipment

We have a suite of specialist laboratories to support our research which are used by both staff and students. These include

  • eye-tracking laboratory - which houses an advanced Tobii T-120 eye-tracking equipment. This state-of the-art eye-tracker is a non-obtrusive and does not require head mounted tracking equipment. It is also portability to enable eye-tracking research in the field.
  • psychophysiology laboratory - which houses both Electroencephalograph (EEG) facilities as well as more basic psychophysiology recording equipment (e.g. heart-rate, skin-conductance recording etc). The EEG recorder allows recording from up to 64 sites on the scalp for the collection of fine detailed EEG information. We are currently in the process of purchasing a new higher specification EEG machine
  • low-level vision laboratory - this facility has dedicated equipment especially suited to fine grained manipulation of stimulus intensities and durations particularly suited to low-level vision research.
  • observation suite - this facility houses an observation room with three high definition video and audio cameras and a viewing room. The suite is suitable for observational studies and interviews or focus groups.
  • multi-purpose laboratories - which are suitable for conducting computerised experimental tasks, one-to-one interviews, or questionnaire studies

We have access to a number of other research facilities, which are available through arrangement with other sections of the University. There are considerable laboratory facilities within the Centre for Sports and Exercise Science including soundproof and climate control rooms, as well as facilities within the Faculty of Health and Wellbeing.

All labs have access to Eprime and a range of supportive software. Biopacs are also available which allow a range of psychophysiological measures to be recorded.

We also have a large library of commercially produced psychological tests, and have access to specialist sports science research facilities and nutritional science laboratories. There are also bookable interview rooms.
