I'm interested in the space between normal and abnormal personality. If these exist on a continuum, then the same kind of behavioural and cognitive traits associated with disorders should be visible (albeit to a lesser extent) within non-clinical populations. Most of my work has involved the personality trait schizotypy, which has been linked to both schizotypal personality disorder and schizophrenia.

I am currently working on a study investigating whether differences in context processing (a facet of cognition in which people with schizophrenia show deficits) are dependent on degree of schizotypy.

I am also interested in psychophysiological aspects of health, and am involved in several studies looking at cardiovascular behaviour in response to stress. One study is looking at whether schizotypy plays a role in this process, while another, funded by the Irish Health Research Board, is concerned with sleep deprivation and aging.

Research collaborations

I am currently collaborating with researchers at the Centre for Research on Occupational and Life Stress at the National University of Ireland, Galway on the sleep and aging study referred to above.
