Research at Sheffield Hallam
Research and business development is a key strategy and is implemented through the University's Research Institutes and Centres.
Our research portfolio is continuing to develop. Between the academic years 2000-01 and 2007-08, research income from new grants and contracts increased by 84 per cent to £12.5 million.
Research Assessment Exercise (RAE)
The Research Assessment Exercise (RAE) 2008 demonstrated that 68 per cent of our research activity was of international standing, and we continue to be ranked in the top 10 post-1992 Universities for research quality.
Research infrastructure
Sheffield Hallam University has excellent facilities available for research. An award of almost £2 million from the HEFCE Science Research Infrastructure Fund (SRIF) has been invested in equipment for biomedical and materials research.
Research ethics and standards
Research ethics issues have received increasing attention in recent years. Sheffield Hallam has a dedicated research ethics policy which is constantly reviewed to ensure that the highest of standards are met.
Staff development
As with all staff, researchers at Sheffield Hallam are encouraged to take part in a range of development opportunities. The Enterprise Centre staff development programme was especially designed to offer tailored in-house courses to support research and business development activity.
