Economics of sport and recreation

SIRC maintains an in-house designed macro-economic model of the sport and leisure industries. Data from this model has been used to conduct seminal 'economic importance of sport' reports for the UK as a whole, the four home nations and regions and sub regions. Furthermore, this data provides the basis for the Centre's two annual publications - Leisure Forecasts and Sport Market Forecasts.

Our technical competence in the areas of applied economics, econometrics and management accounting differentiate The Sport Industry Research Centre from its competitors within other HE institutions and the commercial market place.

In 2005 SIRC's expertise was recognised by Sport England when we were awarded the status of Collaborating Centre on the Economics of Sport.

We take a broad view of what is meant by sport and recreation and have used the basic principles in a variety of contexts notably Countryside Recreation where we have examined demand and supply issues for National Exemplar projects into Rights of Way Improvement Plans.
