Staff development
Our researchers are encouraged to take part in a range of development programmes. They include generic skills training and specific courses, developed by the University's Research and Innovation Office, to support research and knowledge transfer activity.
Transferable skills
We offer training for the development of transferable skills, such as
- project management skills
- presentation skills
- specialist careers advice, which is available and recommended for researchers on fixed-term contracts
Staff at all levels are encouraged to take part in these activities.
Research and knowledge transfer
Courses are free and open to all staff, and will be particularly valuable to those involved in research, knowledge transfer and support roles. The courses provide an opportunity to meet colleagues from other research centres and faculties.
Courses include
- induction for research and knowledge transfer staff – an overview of how to access the University's support and advice services
- grant writing – developing the skills required to write successful research grant applications for funding from major sponsors such as Research Councils UK
- Knowledge Transfer Partnership proposal writing – an introduction to the programme and the opportunities for knowledge transfer through working with businesses
Research ethics
We recognise the important issues surrounding research ethics. We provide training and development on all topics, including awareness of research ethics, handling contentious research issues, governance, processes and management.
