Routes into Languages
Background
Routes into Languages is a Government funded project which aims to increase the take-up of language courses in higher education by encouraging more young people to continue studying languages at school and college and in to university.
The programme is supported by £8 million from HEFCE and the Dept. for Children, Schools and Families. Regional networks were set up to deliver a range of activities and events to promote the role of languages in business development and economic growth.
Our involvement
he Yorkshire Universities consortium, of which Sheffield Hallam is a lead partner, brings together schools, colleges, regional Higher Educational Institutions, the Regional Language Network and Comenius Yorkshire and the Humber. As part of the project which runs until July 2012 Sheffield Hallam has developed and delivered Language taster days for Y8 and Y9 pupils, sponsored school field trips abroad and hosted an annual three day languages summer school in conjunction with King Edward VII and Brinsworth schools.
