CIHMR Conference
Emerging opportunities, building partnerships - moving the hospitality industry forward to 2012 and beyond
Tuesday 7 April 2009, 10am - 4pm
Stoddart Building, City Campus
As the economic downturn continues to dominate the headlines and as consumers feel the pinch, UK hospitality businesses face an apparently gloomy future. But all is not lost.
Our 2009 conference adopts a positive stance regarding the future of the hospitality industry, both nationally and in Yorkshire. The conference will be a vibrant mix of keynote presentations, panel discussions, workshops and will also offer networking opportunities. It is the first of a series of events held in 2009 as we move forward to become the Sheffield Business School.
Our key note speaker is Bob Cotton OBE. Bob has been chief executive of the British Hospitality Association, the national trade association of the hospitality, catering and leisure industry, with over 40,000 establishments in membership, since January 2000. Before his appointment, he spent a year as tourism advisor to the Department of Culture, Media and Sport.
The conference will end with a motivational speech from Olympic medallist Leon Taylor. Leon's passion for everything he does has helped him achieve sustained success at the highest level. Considered a feat in itself for such a physically punishing sport, his diving career lasted more than 20 years and his successes have brought diving to the attention of the British public.
Leon will be lifting spirits for all those attending and will providing some inspirational thoughts for those involved with the hospitality industry as it moves forward to 2012, the year of the London Olympics, and beyond. Among other interests, Leon now works as a TV presenter, mentor to members of the British team, athlete ambassador for London 2012 and speaker to corporate and other audiences.
The conference costs £25 per delegate, which includes a lunch and refreshments throughout the day - places are limited so please book early.

Please note: Hospitality Alumni Network members can attend free of charge - please visit http://hospitalityalumni.shu.ac.uk for more details and to book your place.
