New forum for events managers – your opportunity to get involved

Phil Crowther of the events management team has set up a new forum allowing people working in events management throughout South Yorkshire to step back from their normal pressures and meet and share experiences.

Phil said, 'From informal discussions with contacts throughout the sector, it’s clear that many people rarely get the chance to get together because of the sheer pressure of their jobs – and that’s the same whether they’re working on major international events like the World Cup or the Olympic Games or private parties and events at a local level. What we’re trying to do through the forum is to provide a space for people to come together, make connections, share experiences and inspire each other, away from the constant demands of the telephone and inbox.'

The first event, sponsored by Sheffield City Hall, attracted 27 events management professionals from organisations throughout South Yorkshire, including Sheffield Chamber of Commerce, Sheffield International Venues, Barnsley Council, Sportworks, Rotherham Council and Sheffield Galleries.

Those at the event discussed what they wanted to see offered by the forum in future and came up with a wish list of activities and areas they’d like to see covered, including legislation, risk, event evaluation, and event promotion.

'It’s clear that there is a big appetite from events management professionals for this kind of opportunity and we are delighted to be involved in helping establish it,' said Phil. 'Not only will people be able to benefit from the experience and knowledge our Business School team have, but we’ll also be able to learn from them too.'

A series of meetings is scheduled over the next few months and anyone wanting to attend or simply find out more about what’s on offer please contact Phil Crowther.
