You can gain a doctorate through Sheffield Business School by completing a PHD or DBA.
PhD
The PhD is the traditional doctorate. You complete a period of individual research which makes an original contribution to knowledge. This is expressed in an 80,000 word thesis or equivalent. You usually complete a PHD in three years full-time or four to six years part- time.
Doctorate in Business Administration (DBA)
Professional doctorates, such as DBA or EdD combine taught modules and a dissertation. The dissertation must make an original contribution to business or professional practice, with due rigour and impartiality. This approach allows research of more direct strategic relevance to a sponsoring employer.
In co-operation with other research units in the Sheffield Business School, we offer a Doctorate in Business Administration. International hospitality management is a speciality on the programme.
The taught elements involve attending for three block weeks a year for two years. You have a further two years to complete the dissertation. The format preserves the interactive networking opportunities that will be familiar to our past graduates.
To discuss opportunities for PhD study or other forms of doctoral study, please contact Stephen Ball or Bill Bramwell.
The Centre plays an important part in the development of doctoral programmes, including part- and full-time provision of the PhD programme and the Doctorate in Business Administration.
