Dr Rob Bailey, PhD, MA, Pg Dip, Cert Dip, BA (Hon.)

Dr Rob BaileyRob is an experienced leisure, hotel and tourism sector consultant. Over the past 15 years, Rob has worked with private and public sector clients to optimise the financial and economic benefits from investments in the hotel, visitor attraction, commercial leisure, conference and exhibition, sport, performing arts, and tourism sectors.

Rob specialises in market and financial feasibility analysis, business planning (for public sector grant funding and private sector investment), commercial appraisals, and operator identification. He has worked throughout the UK, across Continental Europe, and further a field in countries such as India and Brazil.

Prior to starting Fives Lines Consulting, Rob was the director responsible for Tribal Group plc's hotel and leisure regeneration work in the UK. Before that, he led KPMG's public sector leisure and tourism consultancy work nationally. His other experience includes working for the US-owned leisure and tourism consultancy Economics Research Associates, Deloitte & Touche's hospitality and leisure advisory team, and in local government (in leisure marketing and sports development roles).

Rob has complemented his work experience with the following qualifications

  • PhD (based on research into hotel industry corporate strategy, branding, and financial performance)
  • MA in Tourism and Leisure
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Tourism, Leisure and Service Management
  • Certified Diploma in Accounting and Finance (ACCA)
  • BA (Hons) in Geography

Rob is a member of the Tourism Society, and the Leisure Property Forum. He has had a number of articles published in academic and leisure / hotel trade journals.

Jerry Cheung

A mechanical engineering graduate, Jerry spent his initial career working for his sponsor, the British Steel Corporation. At the time he was also studying MSc in Advance Engineering (part time) at then the Sheffield City Polytechnic (now the Sheffield Hallam University). Jerry was appointed an efficiency engineer for the steel making plant before he left BSC in 1988.

After being an entrepreneur in the hospitality and property business in Sheffield for 10 years, Jerry went on to study and obtain an MBA in Marketing Management at Sheffield University in 1999.

From 1999 to current, Jerry has developed his own property company and a modern Chinese restaurant/bar chain called the Simply Chinese Group, as well as other individual restaurants. Jerry is very keen in putting something back into the community and has been the Chairman of Sheffield's Chinese Community Centre since 2001.

Professor Keith Johnson, BSc, MPhil CNAA, MCIPD, FIH, FHEA

Before joining the staff of Leeds Trinity and All Saints in 1999, Keith worked at Huddersfield University, Leeds Metropolitan and Manchester Metropolitan University.

He had his first article published in 1978 and since then has produced: 35 journal articles, nine book chapters, five books, 23 conference papers and 14 book reviews.

He is a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, a fellow of the Institute of Hospitality and a fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In addition, he is a subject reviewer for the Quality Assurance Agency and has acted as an external examiner for 15 other universities and colleges.

Jane Sunley, FIOH

Following a successful career within hospitality management, Jane spent a number of years as MD of a specialist hospitality recruitment company, which she co-founded. Having recognised that the time and resource allocated to recruitment was rarely matched when it came to retention activity, in September 2001 she founded the UK's first talent retention business - learnpurple.

In addition to running learnpurple and, since 2005, its sister company talent toolbox, Jane currently holds two non-executive directorships and has been instrumental in the success of several high profile employment projects. She is a member of the Talent Foundation, president of the Hotel Catering Personnel and Training Association (HCPTA), and a fellow of the Institute of Hospitality and a trustee of Arena.
