Profile

Gill gained a first degree in psychology and then spent several years teaching in Spain, Portugal, Ecuador and the UK. She completed a PgDip in Tourism Management (with Distinction) and went on to be a marketing executive for a travel wholesale company. Gill teaches on both the undergraduate and postgraduate courses and she is course leader for the postgraduate degrees in tourism management, and tourism and hospitality management. She has been involved in curriculum development projects, including writing a fieldwork guide to Catalonia, Spain to support the undergraduate field study module.

She has published research papers and a book on adventure tourists. Her current work in this field examines the motives, personalities, lifestyles and perceptions of mountaineer tourists, and it also explores their experiences during their mountaineering activities. She carried out fieldwork in the French Alps on these tourists during 2007 and is currently writing up research papers on this topic. During 2006 she undertook fieldwork on tourism planning and coordination in the Lake District, UK.
