Bernard Williams
BSc, FRICS
Bernard Williams is a professional practitioner with a national and international reputation at the boundary between education, applied research and professional practice. He was one of the first people to see the potential of strategic facilities management (FM).
His critical analysis of building economics led to the development of benchmarking programmes. This holistic approach to FM, which began in the late 1970s, remains a cornerstone today for many FMs at senior level.
Bernard is now in self-employment though actively involved with Bernard Williams Associates (BWA), the Chartered Surveyors practice he founded. With the Centre, he is working on key value management projects in Stockport PCT (currently cfmd's most significant active partner in commercial terms).
His research interests in performance modelling of facilities specifically complement work recently published from the Centre's Health and Government Research Networks. The developing submission for the centre's Research Excellence Framework (REF) strategy features his active involvement, including publication, in taking this work forward as one of three proposed strategic themes developed.
