Mel is a senior lecturer and course leader for the MBA in Facilities Management (FM). She lectures on the undergraduate and postgraduate programmes in facilities management (FM) at Sheffield Hallam University.
She has a Masters in Communication Studies, and a Postgraduate Certificate in Learning and Teaching in Higher Education. She is also a member of the British Institute of Facilities Management (BIFM) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. In her previous role, she worked as the manager of the Countryside Recreation Network (a network of government and non-government agencies across the UK and Ireland).
Her research has included an evaluation of the communication tools used by the Countryside Recreation Network. Current research involvements include an ESRC funded project to develop and disseminate best practice in the application and use of renewable energy technologies in affordable homes, and a knowledge exchange focused on the impact of the employer brand.
Her research interests also include the provision of FM in outdoor recreation facilities and the use of communication skills in FM.
