Dr Rachel MacDonald
Visiting research fellow
When Rachel commenced her doctoral studies she held a board level position as the Director of Facilities Management at the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole Hospitals NHS Trust. She was responsible for a full range of FM services from capital builds to car parking, from catering to maintenance.
Wanting to work part time to facilitate the writing up of her thesis, she made a career move to Primary Care to work more closely with clinical teams. In her role as Director of Change Programmes, North East Lincolnshire PCT, Rachel led a number of strategic change projects that reduced the dependency on acute services, increased and improved services in the community and assisted those with long term conditions to manage the quality of their lives.
Rachel has recently worked on medical and dental school projects in the University sector, and led a Modernisation programme for FM in Mental Health. Living in a small village in North Yorkshire she is very committed to her local community and among other activities she is a School Governor and Chair of its Finance Committee at her local primary school.
Rachel has now taken up a post as visiting research fellow with Sheffield Hallam University in order to facilitate her research into Leadership Conversations through the use of Networks, Structural Holes and Strategic Brokerage in FM.
