Profile

John McAuley is professor of organisation development and management. He is also head of programmes for research degrees. His most recent research has been into the ways in which professionals in organisations respond to issues of change.

He has published in the areas of change management, organisation behaviour, organisation theory, research methods and the work of professionals. In 2002 he wrote, with John Darwin and Phil Johnson, Developing Strategies for Change which was published by FT/Prentice-Hall. He is also the author, with Joanne Duberley and Phil Johnson, of Organization Theory: Challenges and Perspectives published in 2007 by Prentice Hall/Financial Times.

He teaches on a wide range of postgraduate courses and is course leader for the MSc (Organisation Development and Consultancy).

Consultancy and executive development work has included engagements with many local authorities, including work with IDeA, as well as private and community organisations, and with health organisations. The latter has included two substantial projects (with Professor Jim Bryant) involving the use of whole systems events and drama theory to explore primary care trusts and clinical governance.
