Profile

After completing her MA in Industrial Relations and working for a period as a research associate at the University of Oxford, Liz spent around 12 years working as a practitioner. She worked as an industrial relations officer, a personnel manager, a training manager and head of equal opportunities. This experience was gained in a range of different industries - nuclear energy, the voluntary sector and education.

Liz became an academic in 1991 at Oxford Brookes University and she joined Sheffield Hallam University in 2005. Her research has spanned two broad areas. One has been in evaluating human resource practice in a variety of different industries, and the other has been related to equality and diversity, particularly in relation to women's employment and, more recently, age diversity. Her recent work has been funded by a range of bodies including the European Social Fund, the DTI, the Leadership Foundation for Higher Education and private industry.

From 2005-2008 Liz was a member of the ACAS panel of independent experts who work with employment tribunals on equal pay cases. She regularly advises a range of public, private and voluntary organisations on broad human resource matters and equality issues more specifically.
