Nick SmithNick Smith

Project facilitator, BA (Hons)

Nick is project facilitator at The Alchemy Exchange. His main responsibility is developing The Alchemy Exchange's talent pool of students and graduates. He also acts as key account manager on a number of projects and as the first point of contact for students, academics and clients.

Prior to joining Sheffield Hallam University Nick worked for the Ministry of Defence (MoD) in a support role for the future technology department, where he was in charge of the identification and exploitation of software into the MoD. His main responsibilities included public relations (PR) and relationship development between this small team and key defence industry personnel.

He was then promoted to a programme management role where he oversaw the day-to-day running of a 30-year old national software programme, designed to improve the sustainability, security and cost-effectiveness of airborne software. In addition to this role Nick was a member of the project management group for a key European technology programme, leading the UK effort on behalf of Whitehall and private defence industry as well as attending as a key aide at steering group meetings across Europe.

In 2009 Nick became the UK's head of delegation within the NATO Avionics Systems Panel and took responsibility for the UK's ongoing contribution to the development and custodianship of international avionics standards. Following his time in the MoD Nick worked as a business development manager for ERA Technology where his key responsibility was to ensure that the company's ongoing contracts with the MoD were secured far into the future through contract and relationship development, project scoping and national event management, PR and communications.

Nick has a BA (Hons) in Business and Marketing from Sheffield Hallam University and hopes to complete his MSc in Organisation Development and Consultancy in 2012.
