Research interests/current work

Dr Rory Ridley-Duff is a senior lecturer in human resource management and organisation behaviour. His professional background was gained as a director of worker co-operatives designing and delivering enterprise-level software system to third sector organisations. This led to research interests in workplace democracy, governance, and gender relations.

After winning a Sheffield Hallam PhD studentship, he undertook research into corporate governance in three social enterprises. His books include 'Silent Revolution: Creating and Managing Social Enterprises' and 'Emotion, Seduction and Intimacy: Alternative Perspectives on Organisation Behaviour' and he has contributed articles on social enterprise to international journals including 'Corporate Governance: An International Review, and the International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behaviour and Research'.

In addition to his own research interests, he is currently supervising Masters and doctoral research on work-life balance issues, storytelling in ethnic minority social enterprises, and Islamic business ethics.

Research collaborations

In 2006, Rory provided model social enterprise rules for the Common Cause Foundation, a trust specialising in the provision of legal structures for employee-owned social enterprises. More recently, Rory has delivered the programme 'Bridging the Divide: Governance and Decision-Making in the Third Sector' with colleagues from Manchester Metropolitan and Sheffield Hallam Universities in partnership with Voluntary Action Rotherham. His next collaboration is a book for Sage Publications titled 'Understanding Social Enterprise: Theory and Practice' which will be co-authored with Mike Bull (Manchester Metropolitan University) and Pam Seanor (Huddersfield University).
