Voluntary Action Rotherham
Mediation training for the voluntary sector
Mediation experts from CIOD shared their skills and knowledge with HR and Legal Services, a partnership offering advice and support on human resource and legal issues to the voluntary and community sector in South Yorkshire, in a two-day workshop developed specifically for that sector.
'The experience has been invaluable - it was tailored to our needs, responsive to the expertise within our team and led by experts in the field. I feel we would not have had such a constructive experience had we gone elsewhere. This learning has enabled to look to the future in a more creative way'. - Maxine Phillips, HR and Legal Project Manager
South Yorkshire Police
'Positive action' coaching and mentoring scheme
Our coaching and mentoring specialists won a contract with South Yorkshire Police to help develop their positive action mentoring scheme, which offers applicants and employees from under-represented groups a chance to turn to a mentor for support.
As part of the scheme, the first of its kind in the UK, CIOD experts Paul Stokes, David Megginson and Bob Garvey ran a five-day programme to help the volunteer mentors develop the skills they need to offer support to colleagues at work.
'This development programme is already proving to be a very impressive experience for our new mentors. Not only do we have a veritable 'who's who' of academics from the British mentoring scene delivering the programme, but the accumulated knowledge, experience and material being provided to the candidates is of the highest calibre. With this standard of preparation, we expect great things of the new mentors once active in the role! - Inspector Simon Mellors, Scheme Coordinator
Fosters Bakery
Knowledge Transfer Partnership
Our human resource experts Liz Doherty and Ann Norton worked with Fosters, a family-owned bakery in Barnsley, to prepare a successful Knowledge Transfer Partnership (KTP) bid - one of the first to fund a human resources project. The funding has allowed an associate, Sarah Carmody, to be appointed to work directly with the company's Operations Director to help manage and develop their human relations strategy.
'Everyone is benefiting from the KTP approach. I'm learning a lot working with the company, the company is getting top level advice from the experts at Sheffield Hallam University as well as my day to day experience and input, and the academic community is building up its experience of putting theory into practice.' - Sarah Carmody, KTP Associate 'Having Sarah working with us has been an enormous benefit. It's freeing up my time so I can concentrate on other priorities and the input from Ann and Liz is extremely helpful.' - Michael Taylor Operations Manager > Read full case study
