Navigation

To navigate through the site you can use the following methods:

You can use the back button in the browser to return to the last page you visited.

Style sheet switcher

You can change the look of the site by clicking on one of the four styles available. These are situated on the top right of the screen under the menu bar.

Default - This is what the site is originally set at.

Large text - This leaves the colours of the site the same but increases the size of the text throughout the site.

High contrast - This leaves the text size the same as default but changes to high contrast colours, which is a dark background and light text colours.

High contrast large text - This increases the text size and changes to high contrast colours, which is a dark background and light text colours.


Screen / text size

This site contains large amounts of information in text format. If you feel that each line contains too many words and you find it easier with less words per line there are two ways to achieve this.


Jot box

At the end of each section there is a jot box. This is a Microsoft word template within the browser which allows you to make notes on the section you have just worked through. If you select the jot box from the sitemap this will open in a new window allowing you to still navigate through the site with the jot box open.

When you click on the Jot Box link a pop-up message shall appear on the screen asking if you would like to save the document, open it or cancel the operation. Choose the open option then the document shall open in a word document in a new browser. You can then save any notes you make as with a normal Word document.

Printing

You can print a page off the site at any time by selecting File > Print from the toolbar or pressing Ctrl + P on your keyboard.

When printed the page will look slightly different from what you see on the screen as it will not print the menu bar, breadcrumb, style switcher or next and previous links.


Glossary

The glossary page, which can be accessed from the menu bar or the further resources section on the sitemap, defines terms used within the site that users may be unfamiliar with. The first time one of these terms appears on a page it is linked directly to the glossary page. Glossary links are distinguished from other links in the site by a dotted line under the word. A question mark icon will appear over the word when you move your cursor over it.

This site was been developed to be fully accessible to all. Some activities within the site require JavaScript but if your browser does not support this a text alternative has been provided. If you require this site in an alternative format please contact The Disabled Student Support Team.


Recommended Browser

Due to the accessibility features supported in this site we strongly advise the use of Internet Explorer 6 (www.microsoft.com). New versions of Netscape (www.netscape.com) and Opera (www.opera.com) will also support the site features.

This site is also set up to render text for anyone using specialist browsers with screen readers and validates as XHTML 1.0 Transitional.
