Accessible learning centre services and resources

Learning centre services and resources are made as accessible as possible to all students.

Accessible facilities

Both learning centres have wheelchair accessible entrances and there are accessible parking spaces outside Collegiate Learning Centre.

In each learning centre you'll find low level printers and photocopiers, and assistive technology resource areas with adjustable furniture for use by students registered with the Disabled Student Support Team.

Specialist equipment and resources

Equipment that you can borrow from the Helpdesk includes • laptops (with speech recognition software) • gel wrist sets • ergonomic and cordless keyboards and mice.

If you have a visual impairment or dyslexia, you can request journal articles in full text from the British Library in the form of a specific type of unencrypted pdf file. And you can use a text version of the Library Catalogue.

Students with learning contracts may be recommended additional services such as obtaining items in alternative formats, extended loan periods and postal book loans.

Private work spaces

We provide bookable meeting rooms for students to work with helpers, or to work individually while using scanners, speakers, microphones or speech recognition software.

Specialist software

Specialist software such as Inspiration, Jaws, Read and Write, Zoomtext magnification software as well as a screen colour optimiser are provided as part of the standard University desktop available on all PCs on campus.

Help from staff

Helpdesk staff provide a wide range of support, from helping you to search databases, answering IT queries and assisting with printing and photocopying.
