A regular on the Grand Prix athletics calendar, the stadium reached iconic status when it hosted the last track performance by double Olympic champion Kelly Holmes.
Recent substantial investment in a new running track has ensured that Don Valley Stadium remains one of Europe's major sporting arenas. The Stadium is home to Sheffield Eagles rugby league team and Rotherham United football club.
Don Valley Stadium is also one of the 14 sporting venues for the BUCS Championship taking place all over Sheffield in March 2009.
