Not just the home of the World Snooker Championship
Sheffield's Crucible is best known for hosting the World Snooker Championship every year. But with a comprehensive list of local productions, there's so much more to see at the city's most famous theatre.
>
The Crucible started life in 1971 and sits in Tudor Square alongside the Lyceum. With a capacity of 980 it is the first choice theatre for the city's major productions.
Shows are performed on a thrust stage, which enables the audience to watch the action on three separate sides. Recent productions at the Crucible include Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing, The Romans in Britain and the critically-acclaimed production of Stephen Sondheim's Assassins.
