A wide variety of small independent theatres

Culturally Sheffield has a lot to offer. This is demonstrated perfectly in the range and quality of the city's smaller independent theatres.

From the Victorian Lantern Theatre to the cosy Merlin Theatre, both in Nether Edge, there's the chance to see the best in amateur dramatics.

Merlin TheatreSheffield's theatre district is one of the largest outside of London, but there are also several small, intimate theatres dotted around the city, as well close by in Eckington, Rotherham and Barnsley.

The Montgomery Theatre in the city centre is the home of Sheffield Christian Education Council. It is used for performances of drama, music and opera and even family productions.

Eckington Theatre, Barnsley's Lamproom Theatre and the Civic Theatre in Rotherham cater for several different plays throughout the year, and, of course, the traditional pantomime at Christmas.
