Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS)
Sheffield Hallam has been awarded TASS Hub status, as one of only 13 Hub sites, from September 2008. The Talented Athlete Scholarship Scheme (TASS) is a government initiative aimed at helping talented athletes who wish to progress with a formal academic study but maintain an involvement in performance sport.
The scheme provides a support system, driven through partnership working between higher education institutions (HEIs), further education colleges (FECs), National governing bodies of sport (NGBs) and other sports organisations. TASS aims to span the gap between school and junior representative sport and world class sport for young people beyond the statutory school leaving age. The TASS scheme complements other existing talent development and performance opportunities.
TASS offer scholarships of up to £3,500 with NBGs selecting eligible athletes for an appropriate award. This money will then be used to provide the athlete with support in the following areas
- sports injury services
- sports nutrition
- sports science support
- strength and conditioning support
- coaching opportunities and infrastructure
- Talented Athlete Lifestyle Support (TALS)
Eligibility
You need to
- have a British passport
- be undertaking a recognised education programme registered at an institution in England
(a TASS 2012 athlete needs only to be undertaking an education programme at a recognised education institution) - be able to represent either the Great Britain or England representative team in your chosen sport
Current world-class funded athletes (Podium, Development and Talent) cannot receive additional funding from TASS.
