Competition rules and disclaimer
1. Eligibility for the competition is restricted
- to any full-time or part-time students enrolled at Sheffield Hallam University on 29 February 2012
- to any former full-time or part-time student of Sheffield Hallam University who left no earlier than 2007
2. Competition entries must be based on a business idea. You may not enter as an existing business which is already trading during the entry period of 1–29 February 2012
3. Teams of up to four named individuals may enter the competition. All entries must have a team name for reference purposes and at least half the team must be eligible as defined in point 1.
4. Each team must nominate a team leader and this person must be eligible as defined in point 1. All correspondence and information will be made to the team leader and it is their responsibility to share information with the rest of their team.
5. Only one entry per person, either as an individual or as part of a team, is allowed.
6. Applications will only be accepted by submitting the online registration form.
7. The University reserves the right to disqualify from the competition any entrant whose business idea, or any part thereof, is contrary to University policy, public policy or morality, or contravenes any law of the United Kingdom, or otherwise may be considered to bring the University into disrepute.
8. The proposed business plan must not form part of an existing business or franchise.
9. It is mandatory for every member of each team to attend every event and workshop.
10. Teams who are unable to attend the mock judging day on Wednesday 19 September 2012, final judging day on Wednesday 26 September 2012 or the Enterprise Awards Dinner on Tuesday 16 October 2012 will be disqualified.
11. The judges' decision at every stage of the competition is final.
12. Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the panel of judges to the team or individual presenting the best business proposal.
13.All prizes will be given in two stages: 25% of the cash prize will be awarded immediately and the remaining 75% will be awarded once evidence has been provided that the business is trading.
14. Finalists MUST claim their prizes by 31 July 2013 or entitlement to those prizes will be lost.
15. It is the entrants' responsibility to provide the judges with sufficient copies of their final business plan.
16. Winners of the competition must provide the organisers with outline publicity material and co-operate in maximising publicity for the competition on an ongoing basis.
17. All the applications will be held in confidence and judges and mentors will be required to sign confidentiality disclosure agreements before being given access to the business plans. It is the responsibility of the applicants to confirm that they have the right to exploit any intellectual property contained in their plan and to take the appropriate steps to protect it.
18. Entrants from previous Enterprise Challenge competitions are able to re-register with the same business idea providing they can demonstrate that the idea has progressed and developed in the interim. Previous finalists cannot re-enter.
19. Franchise businesses will only be accepted if they can show significant added value to the standard model.
20. Sheffield Hallam University academic staff are not permitted to enter the competition. Non-academic staff who are current or former students are permitted to enter, as long as they meet all other eligibility criteria.
21. No late entries will be permitted at any stage of the competition.
