Enterprise Challenge 2010

Competition rules and disclaimer

1. Eligibility for the competition is restricted to

  • any full time or part time students enrolled at Sheffield Hallam University on 28 February 2010
  • any former full or part time student of Sheffield Hallam University who left no earlier than 2004

2. Teams of up to four named individuals may enter the competition - all entries must have a team name for reference purposes and at least 50 per cent of the team must be eligible.

3. Each team must nominate a Team Leader and this person must be eligible as defined in 1. All correspondence and information will be made to the Team Leader and it is their responsibility to share information with the rest of their team.

4. Only one entry per person, either as an individual or as part of a team, is allowed.

5. Applications will only be accepted by submitting the online registration form.

6. The University reserves the right to disqualify from the competition any entrant whose business idea, or any part thereof, is contrary to University policy, public policy or morality, or contravenes any Law of the United Kingdom, or otherwise may be considered to bring the University into disrepute.

7. The proposed business plan must not form part of an existing business or franchise.

8. The Team Leader must attend one of the meet the team sessions for his/her team to be eligible. Individuals will be required to provide evidence of their eligibility if requested.

9. No late entries will be permitted at any stage of the competition.

10. Teams that cannot evidence that at least one team member has attended two of the support sessions from the events programme by Monday 26th July 2010 will be disqualified.

11. Teams who are unable to attend the following will be disqualified

  • the mock judging day on Wednesday 15 September 2010
  • final judging day on Wednesday 22 September 2010
  • the awards ceremony on Thursday 30th September 2010

12. The judges decision at every stage of the competition is final.

13. Prizes will be awarded at the discretion of the panel of judges to the team or individual presenting the best business proposal.

14. All prizes will be given in two stages

  • 25 per cent of the cash prize will be awarded immediately
  • 75 per cent will be awarded on incorporation of the business

15. Winners MUST claim their prizes by 31 July 2011 otherwise entitlement to those prizes will be lost.

16. It is the entrants' responsibility to provide the judges with sufficient copies of their final business plan.

17. Winners of the competition must provide the organisers with outline publicity material and co-operate in maximising publicity for the competition on an ongoing basis.

18. All the applications will be held in confidence and judges and mentors will be required to sign confidentiality disclosure agreements before being given access to the business plans. It is the responsibility of the applicants to confirm that they have the right to exploit any intellectual property contained in their plan, and to take the appropriate steps to protect it.

19. Entrants from previous Enterprise Challenge competitions are able to re-register with the same business idea, providing they can demonstrate that the idea has progressed and developed in the interim. Previous winners cannot re-enter.

20. Franchise businesses will only be accepted if they can show significant added value to the standard model.

21. Sheffield Hallam University academic staff are not permitted to enter the competition. Non academic staff are permitted to enter as long as they meet all other eligibility criteria.
