Sheffield Hallam PGCE Scholarship
If you're starting a PGCE course in 2013–14 and have a residual household income of less than £25,000, you may be eligible for additional financial support.
Full-time students are assessed automatically against the eligibility criteria using the financial information they have provided to Student Finance England. Part-time and EU students must complete an application form and return this to our Student Financial Support Centre by the deadline.
How much is the PGCE Scholarship?
Full-time students will receive a £500 fee waiver and £1,000 in cash. Part-time and EU students are eligible for the fee-waiver element only. This is awarded on a pro-rata basis.
Am I eligible for this new award?
To be considered for Sheffield Hallam’s PGCE scholarship you must be
- ordinarily resident in England*
- starting a PGCE course in 2013 and liable to pay the University's 2013–14 tuition fee of £9,000 (part-time students will pay a proportion of this fee)
- from a low income household, defined as one with a residual income of £25,000 or less
* The University is using the same national eligibility criteria that apply to the National Scholarship Programme (NSP) awards. This means the scholarships are not available to students who are normally resident in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland.
EU and part-time students are only eligible for the fee waiver element of the award on a pro rata basis.
How do we assess your eligibility?
If you're applying for a full-time PGCE, we'll assess your income eligibility using your household income details verified by Student Finance England. So that Student Finance England can verify your household income details, we advise you to apply for a means-tested student finance assessment as soon as possible. The University will require your application to be completed and approved by Student Finance England by 31 July 2014 for you to be considered for the scholarship.
Please ensure all documentation is supplied, that you have indicated that your university is Sheffield Hallam University, and that you indicate your consent to share this information with the University. This will help us assess and verify your income at the earliest opportunity.
If you're applying for a part-time PGCE, we will require you to complete an application form and provide evidence of your household income to our Student Financial Support Centre. There is a separate application form for EU students. The deadline for applying for the scholarship is 31 July 2014. The scholarship is available for the first year of your course only.
The scholarship is subject to enrolment at the University and conditions apply to payment of the cash bursary.
