Support
We want you to succeed. And we'll do everything we can to make sure that you do.
You can rely on our huge network of learning support staff. Plus as a postgraduate student, you have a personal tutor who is there to help you achieve your goals.
For information about specialist support for international students, see the international student support pages.
Our tutors and lecturers are always happy to give you support and advice, offering a significant amount of their time to help you with assignments and any questions you may have about your course, or studying in general. You can normally contact them by phone or email, or meet them face to face.
As a postgraduate student you are allocated a personal tutor. Your personal tutor is someone you can meet regularly and build up a good relationship with. Their role is to support your academic and personal development, and you should feel comfortable approaching them with any problems or difficulties.
As well as lecturers and tutors, we have a whole host of support staff who can help you with course-related queries and using our facilities. We also look after your personal needs, offering a wide range of support including a careers and employment service, financial advice and disabled student support.
In addition to support from your tutors and student support officers in your Faculty, our Student Advice Drop in Service can help you with issues related to your course, assessment and other student support issues. We also offer study support and a range of learning and IT support services.
Your future career is important to us. Our Careers and Employment Service offers careers advice, guidance and information, enabling you to well-informed decisions about your plans. If you want to set up business on your own, our business start-up service and Enterprise Centre can provide expert advice.
'Before I enrolled I'd heard from a friend who'd studied at Sheffield Hallam about the great rapport that staff have with students. So I was really looking forward to the supportive environment on offer here to help me deal with the pressures of learning at postgraduate level.
'I've really enjoyed the more informal and intimate learning environment. The lecturers aren't just your lecturers, but people you can say hello to outside the classroom. They also make themselves available and are happy to discuss any issues - academic and non academic.'
Richard Telling, MSc International Hospitality Management graduate and current PhD student
